Improving Financial Management of Erasmus+ Grants: Findings from PR1 Study

June 1, 2023

The Million of Erasmus Grants (MEGA) project aims to streamline the management of Erasmus + grants at the university level and develop a digital tool to ensure accurate and timely payment of grants to students, considering national and local contexts of Higher Education Institutions throughout the Erasmus grant process.

The purpose of PR1 – Methodological guidelines for student grant distribution is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the financial management of Erasmus + grants across Europe by collecting information from different European countries.

Between June and November 2022, under the responsibility of Mendel University and Selçuk University, the consortium conducted a survey to explore the factors influencing smooth student grant management and how different Institutions handle this task.

We aimed to identify payment trigger points and critical moments in the grant payment process in different countries.

This study aimed to identify key issues in student grant management within the contexts of professional practice at IROs and determine the necessary features for the digital tool.

Three groups were targeted:

  • Students: to assess satisfaction levels and identify areas for improvement
  • International Relations Offices: to understand the diversity of internal institutional rules
  • Erasmus + National Agencies: to evaluate official rules and conditions at the national level

These findings will contribute to the development of a methodological framework using relevant databases (PR2).
