On Friday, April 17, 2026, international and PhD students of the University of Warsaw gathered at the UW Main Campus for the first session of the workshop “Watch Netflix’s 1670 series with us!”, organised by the University of Warsaw’s Welcome Point.
During the meeting, participants watched the first and seventh episodes of the first season of 1670, Netflix’s original Polish comedy series set in the 17th century. The screening became a starting point for a lively discussion on Polish history, national myths, noble traditions, stereotypes and the sharp humor that has made the series so popular.
The discussion was led by mgr Małgorzata Malinowska from the Polonicum Centre, University of Warsaw. Together, participants reflected on the cultural references presented in the series and considered whether the stereotypes and jokes shown in 1670 matched their own experiences of Poland and Poles.
The event brought together 12 participants and created an engaging space for cultural exchange, conversation and shared laughter.
The workshop offered participants much more than a film screening. It became an opportunity to look at Polish culture from a humorous perspective, exchange impressions and discuss how historical stereotypes still resonate today.
