Students on mobility are not immune to mental health challenges. In fact, they may encounter emotional and psychological difficulties that can put their mental well-being to the test as a result of stress, adaptation, loneliness, uncertainty, or cultural adjustment, depending on the stage of their mobility journey.
Preparing for mobility does not only mean taking care of administrative and academic requirements; it also means preparing emotionally and psychologically for life-changing experiences such as studying abroad.
Firmly rooted in the belief that mental health prevention matters, the Mobile Minds in Motion consortium is launching the Learning Hub — a new platform developed to support students before, during, and after their mobility experience by providing practical, accessible, and student-oriented resources focused on prevention, awareness, and resilience-building.
The Learning Hub includes:
- a self-assessment tool for monitoring well-being;
- educational articles with practical tips and coping strategies;
- podcasts and short videos addressing common mobility-related challenges;
- guidance on recognising early warning signs and accessing support.
The content is grounded in research findings, surveys, and focus group insights collected throughout the project from students, psychologists, and university staff.
While students are the primary audience for the articles, podcasts, and videos, some of the resources also speak directly to university staff. Recognising that university staff can play an important role in supporting students — even without a background in psychology — the project includes dedicated podcast episodes and videos offering guidance on how to best assist mobile students throughout their mobility experience.
Through the platform, the consortium aims to contribute to healthier and more supportive mobility environments by encouraging open conversations around mental health and providing students with practical and easy-to-access support tools.
