The project in a nutshell

The REX project aims to transform the student experience of selecting mobility destinations, aligning it with modern expectations and needs. By exploring the factors influencing student perceptions of Erasmus mobility, the project gathers insights through surveys, focus groups, and a VR proof of concept to make destination selection more engaging and informative. Through a comprehensive literature review and policy recommendations, REX will identify best practices for helping students make informed, fulfilling, and values-aligned mobility choices. This project aims to redefine mobility as an unmissable opportunity and to explore how new technologies like VR can enhance student decision-making.

Reimagining The Erasmus Experience

The REX project seeks to reimagine the Erasmus+ mobility experience by addressing the evolving needs and expectations of today’s students. Through an innovative approach that combines research, technology, and policy, REX aims to enhance how students perceive and engage with international mobility opportunities, making them more accessible, motivating, and aligned with students’ values.

At its core, the project investigates the factors that shape students’ decisions to participate in Erasmus+ mobility programs, focusing on their awareness, motivations, and preferences. Through literature, surveys, and focus groups with students and International Relations Offices (IROs), REX identifies gaps in student mobility understanding and examines the entire Erasmus+ experience, from initial awareness to final destination selection.

One of the most innovative aspects of the REX project is the development of a VR proof of concept. This interactive tool will allow students to engage with potential mobility destinations in a creative and engaging way, helping them make better-informed choices about where to study abroad. Ultimately, the REX project seeks to provide actionable policy recommendations that can transform how Erasmus+ mobility programs are communicated and experienced while also scoping VR tools to make mobility more attractive to students.

Outputs

Mapping literature

The literature review will critically examine existing research on the Erasmus+ mobility programme, evaluating student experiences, perceived limitations, and areas for improvement. Through an analysis of various academic materials, policy recommendations will be developed to help shape a more accessible mobility experience for students across Europe.
